Thank you for your support of the MVLA High School Foundation
Thank you for your support of the MVLA High School Foundation. This past year, the uncertain economy presented fundraising challenges, so I am especially pleased to report that we reached our goal of raising $850,000. Our dedicated volunteers got the word out, and the Foundation received more donations than ever before, ranging in amounts from $5 to $25,000. As a result, we were able to fund a number of academic programs that benefited nearly 3500 students at our local high schools. It is a privilege to be part of a community that values education and is willing to step up to ensure our students receive the top-tier education they deserve (and the kind colleges expect).
Once again, our school district is facing funding cuts from the state. Our schools will rely on support from the Foundation to bridge the gap between the education paid for by the state and the education we want for our students. The programs we fund--such as class-size reduction, tutorial centers, and college application guidance--are beyond the bare-bones curriculum of our state and limited budget of our district, and would be out of reach if not for the assistance of Foundation dollars. These programs are vital to the success of many students, and I worry about the kind of high school experience our kids would have without them. The reality is that private funds are needed to keep our public schools strong.
